The Bulldozers were formed in 1879 for one purpose only. The purpose was to challenge, and defeat, the undefeated State of Kansas Champions, the Topeka “Westerns”.

The “Bulldozers” had put together a crack team of players from around the area of Wichita.

As seen in the ‘Box Score’ from the Kansas Democrat of Oswego, it shows us that the rest of the State took interest. The original report in Topeka had the score by telegraph of 4 to 1 Topeka. This of course meant that Wichita was outscored by 4 times or 30 to 8. The “Bulldozers” gave the ‘Game’ at the end of six.

The “Bulldozers” had never played together before or really practiced, unlike the “Westerns” which was a seasoned team.

The Bulldozers only played the one game, but many of their players were recruited to join the Red Stockings who formed shortly after.
